Abstract

Digital transformation in education has reshaped the learning paradigm in higher education, requiring university students to develop independent learning skills through the effective use of digital technology and information. Although access to digital learning resources has become increasingly widespread, many students still face challenges in evaluating and utilizing digital information effectively. This condition highlights the importance of digital literacy as a key competency that supports students' independent learning in the era of educational transformation. This study aims to analyze the role of digital literacy in enhancing students' independent learning through a literature review using a qualitative descriptive approach. The data were collected from relevant scientific journal articles, academic books, conference proceedings, and previous research, and were analyzed through the stages of identification, selection, classification, content analysis, and interpretation to generate comprehensive findings. The results indicate that digital literacy contributes significantly to improving students' independent learning by enabling them to access and evaluate credible academic resources, utilize educational technologies effectively, develop self-directed learning strategies, and strengthen critical thinking, digital ethics, and lifelong learning competencies. Therefore, strengthening digital literacy through curriculum development, digital literacy training, the provision of adequate digital infrastructure, and the enhancement of lecturers' digital competencies is an essential strategy for developing independent, adaptive, and innovative students who are well prepared to face the challenges of education in the digital era.
